Eleven Hours on a Tuesday
Claire was about to delete the app. Three weeks in, no real connection. Then James appeared — a software engineer from Toronto with a terrible opening line and the most honest profile she had ever read.
"He wrote that he was looking for someone who would argue about books with him at midnight," Claire remembers. "I thought — that is either pretentious or the most honest thing I have ever read. I swiped right to find out."
James sent his first message at 11pm London time. Claire responded at 11:04. By 2am they had covered childhood, career failures, favorite films, and the right way to make tea. By Friday they had clocked eleven hours of conversation.
Six weeks later, James booked a flight to London.
"People said it was reckless," he says. "But I already knew her. The distance was just logistics."
They have been together for fourteen months. James works remotely from London now. Neither of them sleeps before midnight.
